PESHAWAR, Oct 18: The Islami Jamiat Tulaba, NWFP, has asked the government to end military operation in Waziristan and find a solution of the crisis in the light of tribal custom and traditions.

Speaking to the IJT office-bearers from Fata in Bannu on Thursday, IJT’s acting provincial chief Khalid Waqas Chamkani opposed the use of force against tribesmen and said that lasting peace could be restored to North Waziristan only by employing the traditional method of jirga.

He said that tribesmen had always favoured dialogue for the solution of conflicts.

He alleged that the government had fallen to new lows of cruelty by attacking houses of its own citizens in tribal areas.

He said that air strikes on villages in Mirali had exposed the designs of rulers, adding the government was carrying out the agenda of the United States in the region.

Mr Chamkani said Pakistan was passing through a critical phase and facing serious political problems, but rulers were making the situation more complicated by using force.

He asked the political administration to end operation, restore peace and re-open all educational institutions in the agency.

He said closure of schools and colleges would provide little help to resolve the issue. He said the IJT would extend all out assistance to those students who had migrated to Bannu from the tribal agency due to security reasons.

The IJT leader visited a relief camp set up by the IJT for the assistance of the war-affected people in Bannu. The tribesmen informed him about the atrocities committed against them in and around Mirali.

A delegation of Mirali students headed by Rasool Dawar met the IJT leader and briefed him about the problems of the students.
