NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah streetlights switched on after 10 years

NAWABSHAH, Oct 11: The streetlights of Nawabshah city were made functional on Wednesday almost 10 years after leaving them disconnected.
The electricity connections to the streetlights were disconnected by Hesco after the local municipal administration fail ed to pay its dues about 10 years back.
As municipal administration did not make any payment due to which the defaulted amount kept increasing and reached up to Rs70 million during the period.
The city would plunge into dark after sunset. People of the area have been demanding for a long time to make streetlights functional.
Recently, the taluka nazim held meetings with the Hesco authorities and also clearing its dues in instalments.
Taluka nazim Abdul Rauf Khan told Dawn that TMA paid almost 70 per cent of the amount.
He said that the TMA has conducted a detailed survey of streetlights in the city and has asked the Hesco authorities for a joint survey to finalise future strategy.
