Assembly will be dissolved on 8th: Fazl

By Mohammed Riaz

PESHAWAR, Oct 3: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday said that after the disposal of no-confidence resolution against NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Oct 8, the latter would advise the governor to dissolve the assembly.

Talking to journalists at the speaker’s gallery after the adjournment of NWFP assembly session, he said that supporters of Gen Musharraf had created some legal complications and restrained Mr Durrani from dissolving the assembly, but these tactics would not validate the re-election of Gen Musharraf.

He said President Musharraf had lost the game on moral grounds and he himself had destroyed his credibility by manoeuvring his unconstitutional re-election. “Even if he succeeds in bagging votes from the NWFP assembly, it will not restore his credibility.”

Maulana Fazl said that MMA lawmakers would not cast their vote in the presidential election on Oct 6. “It is not a matter of vote, it is a matter of credibility.”

He said the MMA was caught in a complicated situation

after the Supreme Court had on Sept 28 dismissed petitions of Qazi Hussain Ahmed and others.

“We could not decide about resignations before the verdict. Had the apex court given its verdict against Gen Musharraf, the situation would have been different. Time factor is important, but rapid changes also matter in politics,” he added.
