PESHAWAR, Oct 3: Parlia-mentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League in the NWFP Assembly, Mushtaq Ghani, has said that the opposition parties have succeeded in their strategy of blocking the dissolution of the house before the presidential election by tabling a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Akram Durrani.

He told APP at the assembly on Wednesday that the strategy was aimed at stopping dissolution of the house as planned by the All Parties Democratic Movement.

He said it was undemocratic that the majority parties wanted to prevent members of minority parties from casting their votes in the presidential election.

He said the option of resigning was open for the APDM members if they wanted to go for it instead of dissolving the assembly.

In reply to a question, Mr Ghani said a boycott by the APDM would not have any impact on the credibility of the polls.

He said the opposition parties in the assembly would use their right to vote on Oct 6 in favour of President Pervez Musharraf.

He said the central leadership of the PML and the People’s Party Parliamentarians were holding talks on the issue. Mr Ghani rejected allegations of horse trading for the no-confidence vote.

He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MPAs were dissatisfied with the policies of their leaders and they wanted to join the opposition parties in their move to dislodge the chief minister.—APP
