PESHAWAR, Oct 3: Police on Wednesday rescued an Afghan trader from kidnappers after 38 days of captivity in Hayatabad area.

City police chief Abdul Majid Marwat and SSP, Operations, Tahir Khan, said at a press

conference at the residence of the victim, Haji Mohammad Anwar, that the kidnappers were involved in a number of abduction cases and they had so far collected $2.2 million as ransom from the victims’ families.

During the rescue operation, three kidnappers were arrested, among whom one was injured after felling from the roof of the house.

The arrested kidnappers -- Sardar Wali, Gul Nabi and Sher Nabi – are Afghna nationals and they kidnapped businessmen from their country.

The SSP said the kidnappers’ gang comprised seven brothers and two of them had fled to Afghanistan.

Haji Anwar said the kidnappers had tortured him and kept him in a bathroom. He said the kidnappers had demanded $500,000 for his release.

The Afghan trader announced a prize of Rs500,000 for the police team which had made efforts for his release. He also gave gold medals to the capital city police officer; the senior superintendent of police, operations; the superintendent of police, cantonment; and the deputy superintendent of police, Hayatabad.
