Governor’s visit a blessing in disguise for locals

SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 23: Punjab Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool’s scheduled visit to this city on Monday (today) proves to be a blessing in disguise for citizens as dilapidated roads crying for repairs for years are urgently being repaired.

During the past two weeks, the district and tehsil governments are repairing several city roads, including Lahore Road, Zila Council Road and Kutchery Road, which were in a shaky condition for the past several years.

The authorities concerned used to prefer a paucity of funds excuse in the past but the governor’s likely visit has changed the situation and funds are pouring in now to repair the roads quickly.

ACCIDENT: A truck driver was killed while his helper was injured in a head-on-collision near Baigpur, some 18 kilometres away from here, on Sunday.

Ashraf, a truck driver, and his helper were coming to Sheikhupura from Gujranwala. When they reached near Baigpur, another vehicle hit their truck as a result of which Ashraf died on the spot. His helper was later hospitalised in a critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle fled. — Correspondent
