PESHAWAR, Sept 17: Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hayat on Monday visited the Corps Headquarters and met Corps Commander Lieutenant General Mohammad Masood Aslam.

He was given a detailed briefing on the security situation on western borders and development works being carried out by the army for the socio- economic uplift of the people of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata).

The vice chief of army staff expressed satisfaction over operational preparedness of troops and paid rich tributes to officers and men of security forces for performing their task with professionalism, commitment, dedication and rendering supreme sacrifices in efforts against militancy and extremism/terrorism.

Later, the vice chief of army staff visited the Frontier Corps headquarters, Fort Balahisar and met Inspector-General of the Frontier Corps, Major General Mohammad Alam Khattak.

He appreciated the role of Frontier Corps in war against militancy and extremism.

Gen Hayat also called on NWFP Governor Lieutenant General (retd) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai. Matters pertaining to the situation in tribal areas came under discussion during the meeting.

The Peshawar corps commander was also present on the occasion.
