LAHORE, Sept 7: Left-arm medium-pacer Sohail Tanvir will make his international debut in the first Twenty20 World Cup Championship tournament being played in South Africa from Sept 11 to 25. Sohail will be replacing Shoaib Akhtar, who was ordered to leave South Africa by team manager Talat Ali Malik for hitting Mohammad Asif with a bat in the dressing room.

Speaking to Dawn on Friday, Chief Selector Salahuddin Ahmed said that Sohail was picked for his excellent bowling during the second match between Pakistan ‘A’ and Australia ‘A’ at Sheikhupura on Friday. Sohail, who failed to take any wickets in the first match in Lahore while conceding 40 runs, finished with four for 47 in the seven overs that he bowled. The Rawalpindi-based Sohail was selected while bypassing another fast bowler Najaf Shah, who also hails from Rawalpindi.
