Accused acquitted in fake currency case

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Sept 7: A local court on Friday acquitted a man charged with carrying counterfeit currency notes.

The court of additional district and sessions judge, Muhammad Zaib Khan, observed that the prosecution could not prove its case against the accused, Badiuz Zaman, and evidence on record was not sufficient for his conviction.

Badiuz Zaman was arrested by officials of the Hayatabad police station on Dec 3, 2006. The police charged him of possessing counterfeit currency notes of denomination 10 to the tune of Rs1800. An FIR was registered against him under section 489(b) and (c) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Advocate Ziaur Rehman Tajik appeared for the accused and contended that the police had falsely implicated him in the case.
