PESHAWAR, Aug 31: Three outlaws and a head constable were killed in an encounter in the Khazana locality on the outskirts of the city on Friday morning, police said.

Police said they had been tipped off that some proclaimed offenders were staying at the house of a former tehsildar Mosam Khan. So they raided Mosam’s house around 8:30am and found the outlaws staying there. Upon seeing the police, the outlaws opened fire. The former retaliated. As a result, three outlaws, Jalal, Ayaz alias Chanai and Ilyas, both brothers, died on the spot. Head constable of the Khazana police station, Mehboobul Haq, also died during the encounter.

Police recovered two Kalashnikovs, two pistols, four hand-grenades and 92 cartridges and took into custody the owner of the house, Mosam Khan, and his son, Asghar Khan, for providing sanctuary to the outlaws.

Police said it was conducting raids to arrest Ajmal, son of Saeed Nabi, an Afghan refugee, and Hasanat, son of Abdul Malik, who were both companions of the outlaws.
