PESHAWAR, Aug 30: The Peshawar traffic police and the Cantonment Board authorities jointly launched an anti-encroachment operation in the Saddar area on Thursday.

Hundreds of illegal shops, kiosks, cabins, signboards were demolished and 50 people, resisting the operation, were taken into custody.

Scores of traffic policemen and Cantonment Board officials took part in the operation.

Traders affected by the operation closed their shops in protest and chanted slogans against the authorities.

They described the operation as a mere drama.
