PESHAWAR, Aug 30: The provincial health department is yet to take action against officials of the Khyber Teaching Hospital who have been held responsible for a faulty air-conditioning plant.

Sources said an inquiry committee constituted by the health department had held the hospital’s administration and maintenance staff responsible for the non-functioning of the plant.

“The committee submitted its report to the health department a fortnight ago, recommending action against the hospital’s medical superintendent, deputy medical superintendents and maintenance engineers,” said a source in the health secretariat.

Sources said the faulty plant was the main reason for postponement of surgeries and complications caused by repeated delay in tests and treatment in the 1,200-bed hospital. Most of the costly and important equipment have been affected by lack of cooling.
