MARDAN, Aug 29: Transporters’ unions at a meeting held here on Wednesday decided to observe a strike in the district on Thursday in protest against the kidnapping of a son of a local transporter.

A first year student of the Mardan Model School, Saddam Hussain, son of transporter Rehmat Sher, was kidnapped for ransom on Tuesday. The meeting took exception to the increasing incidents of kidnappings and said transporters were feeling insecure.

Speaking at the meeting, a transporters’ union president, Mr Waseefullah, said the strike would be extended to other areas of the province if the kidnappers were not brought to the book.—Correspondent
