KARACHI: Kazmi’s wife complains of police excesses

KARACHI, Aug 29: Sadia Kazmi, the spouse of rights campaigner Mohammed Iqbal Kazmi, said on Wednesday that the SHO of the Defence police station obtained at gunpoint her signature on three different papers, detained her and her cousin Mohammed Imran Shehzad in separate rooms and did not take their statements when the pair went to have an FIR registered in accordance with the directive of additional district and sessions judge-II, south, Mohammed Azim.
Speaking at a press conference at the Sindh High Court cafeteria, she told reporters that the station house officer refused to provide her a copy of the FIR and merely disclosed that it was No. 312/07.
“I swear that SHO Jakharani took out his pistol and forced me to sign papers, which violates basic human rights and is tantamount to a contempt of court,” she said, asking the court, the media and human rights organisations to take notice of what she described as lawlessness.
Ms Kazmi said that information in the FIR was included against her will and demanded the incorporation of the names of the persons nominated. She also asked for a probe into the matter through SSP Farooq Awan of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).
