KARACHI: Charity hospital’s phones dead for 25 days

KARACHI, Aug 28: Despite repeated complaints, the PTCL has failed to restore the 10 telephone lines of the LRBT Free Eye Hospital in Korangi which have been lying dead for the last 25 days, claimed the hospital’s management on Tuesday.
According to a media release by the hospital’s administrator Mr Azhar Ahmad, due to the lack of response from the PTCL personnel, great inconvenience was being caused not only to the hospital’s doctors and other staff but also to the patients who come from far-flung areas.
Located in Korangi 2½, the hospital is run by the Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Trust. Its management claimed to have sent at least nine reminders to the PTCL for restoring the phone lines.
Meanwhile, many PTCL consumers also faced difficulties when some bank branches refused to accept the reported extension in the due date for the payment of telephone bills without any surcharge.
The PTCL had announced the extension but the bank officials claimed they had no such intimation.
A PTCL spokesman claimed that the decision to extend the date was communicated to the respective banks and if they had failed to pass it on to their branches, it was not the fault of the telephone company.
Inquiries revealed that people across the city faced this problem.
