KARACHI, Aug 27: Pakistan tennis received a severe blow when promising Davis Cupper and sixth seed Yasir Khan crashed out in the boys’ singles first round of ITF juniors ranking tennis tournament (second leg) at the Karachi Club on Monday.
He met the fate at the hands of India’s unseeded Kaza Sharma who breezed past 6-2, 7-5 to cruise into the next round.
This is the second successive defeat for Yasir in a week’s time as he made an unceremonious exit, losing to Mandeep Yadav straight in the boys’ singles second round tie of first leg on Aug 21.
Similarly, top seed Shiva Sangwan was sent packing by Nehal Kapoor 6-3, 6-3 in All-India encounter. Sangwan was cut short to size by Sumeet Shinde in three-set quarter-final of the previous leg.
Thailand’s Nuttorn Tanchainant who on Sunday lifted the boys singles crown and runner-up Nasir Mushtaq had no difficulty in moving into the next stage.
While the former accounted for Samir Iftikhar 6-1, 6-0, the latter defeated compatriot Ali Asghar Bandeali by the identical score line.
Sri Lankan Jayawickrema Jithmie, who arrived for the second leg, has been top seeded in girls’ singles draw pushing Indian Inayat Khosla to the second spot.
