Former state minister sent on judicial remand

By Munawer Azeem

ISLAMABAD, Aug 27: Former state minister for communications Mohammad Shahid Jamil Qureshi was once again sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand for 14 days on Monday.

The former minister was brought from Adiala Jail, where he has been kept since July 17, and produced in the court of duty magistrate to seek extension to his remand.

Hearing of the bail application of Mr Qureshi is scheduled to be held on September 8.

The former minister is facing charges of Qatl-i- Amd (PPC 302) and Qatl Shibhi-i-Amd (PPC 316), wrongful confinement for 10 days or more (PPC 344) and wrongful confinement in secret (PPC 346).

Kafila Siddiqui, a Canadian national, died under mysterious circumstances on June 9 in a house which she shared with the former minister.

He was given in Shalimar police’s custody on June 22, but he spent the remand period in Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology due to illness.

The sources said investigation had been stopped as the histopathology report of the second autopsy was not received.

But, it was established in the second report that Ms Kafila died from a head injury, while investigations and Mr Qureshi’s statement revealed that he was with the deceased at the time of the incident.
