KARACHI, Aug 16: The additional district and sessions judge-II, South, Mohammad Azeem, on Thursday summoned the SHO of the Defence police station on Aug 18 on an application of civil rights campaigner Mohammad Iqbal Kazmi.
Mr Kazmi on Thursday submitted an application to the court stating that the station house officer of the Defence police station had refused to comply with an order of the court and did not register the FIR of his wife’s kidnapping and torture.
The application was filed under Section 204 of the constitution, contempt of court Act 1976.
Iqbal Kazmi had submitted an application to the court on Aug 9 under Section 22-A of CrPC, stating that his wife Sharia alias Sadia Kazmi and her cousin Mohammad Imran Shehzad were in a rickshaw on their way to the Sindh High Court when gunmen kidnapped them in a jeep on the Sunset Boulevard, near the Defence Library, on Aug 1.
In his application he had held Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs Waseem Akhtar, DSP Zahid Hussain Shah, Sub-inspector Munir Ahmed Chandio and Hamif Memon responsible for the kidnapping and torture.
Medical reports were produced to the court saying that the two were wounded with a sharp-edged weapon and later dropped near Clifton beach.
“Sadia Kazmi and Mohammad Imran Shehzad had frequently visited the police station on Aug 1, Aug 2 and Aug 8, but they were paid no attention by the police officials,” he stated.
The court had issued directives to the SHO on Aug 11 to register an FIR as per the applicant’s statement.
“My wife along with Mohammad Imran Shehzad, son of Mohammad Islam; and Haji Gul Ahmed, son of Wali Mohammad, visited the police station but the officials refused to register a case against the nominated persons,” he stated.
In the application, he quoted the SHO as saying that he was ready to lose his job but he could not afford to register a case against Waseem Akhtar and the others.
Mr Kazmi stated that the SHO’s refusal to register a case on the court order and despite submission of an affidavit by his wife, the official had committed a contempt of court.
The judge summoned the SHO to appear in court on Aug 18 and explain the reasons for the non-compliance of the court order.
