PESHAWAR, Aug 16: The Public Accounts Committee of the NWFP Assembly on Thursday constituted a three-member special committee to scrutinise the financial statements of the provincial irrigation and power department.

The special committee headed by parliamentary leader of the PPP, Abdul Akbar Khan, also comprises Ikramullah Shahid and Muzaffar Said.

The PAC meeting was held here with Speaker of NWFP Assembly Bakht Jehan Khan in the chair.

The meeting held a detailed discussion over differences in the statistical figures of the irrigation and power department and those provided by the accountant-general’s office.

The committee directed the finance department to review the differences in the financial figures and prepare afresh a working paper on the department.

The secretary for local government sought more time for preparation of the working papers which was allowed by the PAC. The meeting reviewed financial statements of information, sports, culture, tourism, irrigation and power departments and took various important decisions.

The meeting was attended by MPAs Abdul Akbar Khan, Anwar Kamal Marwat, Ikramullah Shahid and Muzaffar Said, provincial Information Secretary Afzal Khan, Sports Secretary Attaullah Khan, Irrigation Secretary Syed Khalid Gilani, Accountant General Himayatullah Khan and Information Director Faridullah Khan.
