KARACHI, Aug 13: Four-year-old bay filly Big Show should land the high profile The Independence Day Cup 2007 when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at Karachi Racecourse on Tuesday.

The filly already had The Pakistan Day Cup 2007 under her belt which she won in March. However, she finished off the board in the last run on July 22.

Saddled by veteran trainer Mushtaq Ali Khan, the filly from the stables of Rajar’s will have added advantage of having seasoned jockey M. Nasir in the saddle which shows she is being backed by the connection.

She will have to get the better of her stable mate seven-year-old bay Naseeb who lifted The Summer Cup last month and another bay King Of Sanghar in the one mile race with five runners in fray.

A card of nine races including four cups has been drawn for the day. The first race gets into action at 12.00noon.

Sahibzadi, a three-year-old chestnut filly, have to bring about her best to make it two on trot by lifting The Pakistan 60th Anniversary Cup 2007. Her likely challengers are fillies Taizper and Symbol Of Love among 10 contenders.

Three-year-old bay colt Royal King is on course to make it three-in-a-row should he claim The Sanghar Cup, the top division race of class VII. She should be chased by filly Sugar Sweet and colt Mr. Mention Not for the places.

Eight horses are in line for maiden run in The Kingree Lodge Performance Cup in the opener barring last minute withdrawls.

It will be a term race for thoroughbred colts and fillies of two years old.

Three-year-old bay colt Dream Rose seems poised to pick up spoils in the next race by overcoming Phapha Kutni and Gwenivare.

Eager Saint will have to show improvement to claim long overdue victory under rider Ghulam Shabbir II by overcoming the field in the fourth race.

If allowed to run on merit, seven-year-old bay Donatello should return with flying colours in the fifth.

With Interest and Sher-e-Awan are fancied to win the last two races.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Race Club (KRC) has dropped the proposed move to charge additional five percent tax from punters in advance in addition to their betting money.
