KARACHI, Aug 8: Unprecedented development works have been carried out in Sindh during the past couple of years, said Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim here on Wednesday.

He was speaking to notables from the Umerkot district and those PPP workers who have joined the Pakistan Muslim League, at the Chief Minister House, says a handout.

Dr Rahim said that in spite of carrying out work on big schemes, the provincial government had a saving of Rs22 billion.

He said President Pervez Musharraf had taken personal interest in the completion of all the important development schemes in the province.

The chief minister said that the work on development schemes in the province’s cities and villages was continuing. The chief minister was of the view that a network of roads in various areas of Sindh was laid during his three-year tenure. He said the lining of canals was also taken up on the directives of the president.

He said that after remodelling of the Jumrao Canal, the work to double it would commence soon and this would greatly benefit the Umerkot, Tharparker and Sanghar districts.

The chief minister stated that the Muslim League was working in accordance with the expectations of the people of the province who would vote for the people in the next polls.

The handout further said that those who left the PPP and joined the PML praised the leadership of Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim. They also lauded his stand on the issues faced by Sindh.—APP
