TORONTO: Two more Muslim boys won freedom on Tuesday after the terror-related charges were stayed by a Canadian court in Brampton, 25 kilometres north of Toronto. Eighteen people, including four youths, were arrested last summer in a massive police sweep in Toronto and adjoining cities. They were accused of plotting to bomb various targets in Ontario, Canada’s largest province.

One teenager was released earlier in February after a preliminary hearings in the court. The trial for the remaining teen is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2008.

The boys, who were allowed to go home on Tuesday are now aged 18 and 19. By law, none of the youths can be identified and a publication ban prevents reporting evidence heard at that inquiry. Before their release on Tuesday, the youths signed a peace bond agreeing to abide by various restrictions for up to one year.

Although the charges will not proceed further, Crown attorneys have the option of re-activating the charges within the next year. After one year, the charges will be dropped.
