LARKANA, July 31: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said all out efforts are being made to provide relief to the flood- affected people in Sindh and Balochistan. He was addressing a gathering of notables, flood- hit people of Qambar-Shahdadkot district at District Nazim’s office of Qambar on Tuesday.
The rehabilitation work would be undertaken on a war footing once the survey work was completed, he said.
He also appreciated the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim who was encamped for six days at Larkana and monitored the relief and rescue work.
Besides, the federal Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, looked after people in Dadu district, he said.
He said that the food stuffs including flour, rice, ghee, sugar, pulses, tea and other mixed ration was provided to the flood-affected people.
He said that basic facilities including reconstruction of road, houses and electricity would be provided to the affected villages soon. He announced to construct more stable roads in the flood-hit areas.
Mr Aziz said doctors’ team along with paramedics and medicines would be sent to the flood-hit areas for carrying out free treatment of the patients suffering from Hepatitis B and C.
He said the people of Sindh and Balochistan had generously donated when massive earthquake hit the northern parts of the country. Today, he said, the people of Sindh and Balochistan were facing difficult days in the backdrop of floods and the people of NWFP and Punjab were helping their brothers.
The prime minister distributed cheques and food stuff and relief goods among the flood-affected people on the occasion. He also gave two cheques of Rs50,000 each to Baban Tamani Chandio as compensation for the death of her wife Khashul and daughter Naheed who were washed away by flood water near Gabidero.
DADU: Mr Aziz has announced that Sim nullah and damaged embankments will be repaired at a cost of Rs1 billion to protect the people from such losses in future.
While distributing cheques of Rs15,000 to flood-affected people in Betto Jatoi, the native village of federal minister Liaquat Jatoi here on Tuesday, he said that it was the responsibility of the government to solve the problems of the people in the wake of crisis and natural calamities.
