KARACHI: PPP slams killing of party workers

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 26: Leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) expressing concern over the ‘target killings’ of party activists demanded on Thursday that the authorities immediately arrest the culprits involved in these heinous crimes.

In separate statements issued here, the PPP leaders claimed that during the current month four PPP workers had been targeted while one imprisoned activist was tortured to death in jail.

Those who were killed included Mohammad Asif in Model Colony, Dr Zaheer in Korangi, Murtaza in Khuda Ki Basti (Surjani Town), Mehbub Brohi in Gizri while Daro Khan was tortured to death in prison.

They also condemned the attempt made on the life of the former nazim of Keamari Town, Zulfikar Yunis, and Lal Badshah Jadoon.

The PPP leaders alleged that the government had been ‘protecting the terrorists’ as it had not nabbed a single terrorist since the May 12 mayhem.

The statements were issued by the PPP’s central Deputy Secretary Raza Rabbani, who is also the leader of the Opposition in the Senate, PPP Sindh president Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Karachi division president Rashid Rabbani, Waqar Mehdi, MPA Rafiq Engineer, Qasim Baloch and others.
