LAHORE, July 20: Sixteen teams will take part in the third national women’s football championship which starts at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad from Aug 16. The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) had invited teams from provinces, regions and organizations, but 12 teams had confirmed the participation. Wapda will defend their title, while other contestants will be Islamabad, Balochistan Reds, Sindh Greens, Punjab, Karachi's Diya Club, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan Police, Punjab University, Karachi Kickers, Sindh Reds and Balochistan.

German Football Association (DFB) has decided to assist Pakistan in women’s football by sending their coach Monica Staab. She will be among 4-member selection committee which will choose 35 players from the national championship.

They will undergo training to prepare first-ever national women team which makes debut by appearing in the 16th Asian women championship qualifiers next year.
