MULTAN, July 20: Lawyers and politicians celebrated the reinstatement of suspended Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and setting aside of the presidential reference against him here on Friday.

Lawyers and leaders of political parties distributed sweets and performed “Bhangra” on the premises of district and high court bars.

DBA president Muhammad Akram Bhatti described the decision as historic. He said that lawyers would not allow President Pervez Musharraf to re-elect him from present assemblies.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Lawyers took out a rally, fired crackers in Shuhada Chowk on Jhang Road and marched through Sadar Bazaar where they held a public meeting.

MMA district secretary-general Mian Abdul Basit and PML-N district secretary-general Rana Muhammad Anwar termed the decision a victory of lawyers.

SIALKOT: Lawyers and the people have welcomed the reinstatement of the chief justice in both Sialkot and Narowal districts.

A large number of lawyers and people, including women and children, came out on streets and roads in Sialkot, Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Bajwat, Pasrur, Satrah, Badiana, Chawinda, Shakargarh, Noor Kot, Baddo Malhi and Narowal after listening to Supreme Court verdict.

Sialkot DBA President Muhammad Iqbal Harar and secretary-general Syed Ali Najam Gillani said the reinstatement of the CJP would further strengthen judiciary in the country.

SARGODHA: Lawyers in large number offered thanksgiving prayers besides distributing sweets among them.

DBA President Malik Muhammad Afzal Farooka said that lawyers had achieved their main objective and they would continue their struggle till the revival of real democracy.

Although the attendance in mosques remained thin for fear of bomb blasts, the people of all ages came out on streets and roads in flocks after listening to the verdict in favour of the CJP.

MUZAFFARGARH: The lawyers’ community took out a rally to celebrate the decision of the apex court in favour of the suspended chief justice that terminated at Qinwan Chowk.

DBA President Zubaidul Islam Sherwani and secretary-general Iftikhar Qureshi said the bar would observe a `thanks day’ on Saturday (today).

MIANWALI: Lawyers remained glued with TV channels and celebrated the decision by distributing sweets and embracing each other.

KASUR: Members of the local district bar and tax bar raised slogans “Addlia Zindah Baad” and congratulated each other. Bar President Chaudhry Munir Ahmad distributed sweets among the lawyers.

Bars of Kasur, Chunian and Pattoki announced that they would celebrate Youm-i-Tashakur on Saturday (today).

BAHAWALPUR: Office-bearers of bar associations and political leaders of opposition parties have welcomed the reinstatement of the CJP.

HAFIZABAD: The local district bar association lauded the decision of the full bench of the Supreme Court.

Scores of lawyers and political activists, headed by bar president Syed Nasir Hussain Sherazi, took out a rally and shouted anti-government slogans.

OKARA: DBA president Malik Maqbool Hussain Shakir and secretary-general Sagheer Harni said that lawyers would take out a rally on Saturday (today) and distribute sweets among citizens.

VEHARI: People from all walks of life, especially lawyers, celebrated the restoration of the CJP.
