KARACHI: Lawyers file affidavits over May 12 violence

KARACHI, July 9: Members of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) have submitted 42 affidavits to the Sindh High Court (SHC) to put their statements on record in the context of the SHC’s suo motu notice of the May 12 Karachi violence.
KBA president Iftikhar Javaid Qazi said that members of the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) also wanted to submit affidavits, some of which had already been prepared. He added that the court had fixed August 8 as the date of the next hearing, and anyone who wanted to submit an affidavit should do so.
Mr Qazi announced that aggrieved lawyers would also record statements with the investigation officer concerned with the FIR registered by the KBA leadership against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership and officials of the Sindh government.
The lawyers who have submitted affidavits to the SHC include Zafaryab Baig, Ghulam Mohammad Khan Jadoon, Aman Shereen Khattak, Mushtaq Ahmed Jadoon, Mohammad Iqbal Aqil, Ms Zubaida Motan, Abdul Irfan, Abrar Ali, Sikandar Ali Soomro, Shah Faisal, Masood-ur-Rehman, Maroof Hussain Hashmi, Mohammad Umer Baloch, Asghar Ali, Ghulam Rasool, Suhail Pathan, Bilal A. Chaudhry, Mohammad Imran Khan, Rani Pirzada, Anjum Mehmood Khan, Amir Niaz Khan and Abdul Hafeez Baloch.
