PESHAWAR: PPP criticises MMA govt

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 8: The Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) on Sunday claimed that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government had failed in securing the financial rights of the NWFP, including the net hydel profits. It was now blaming its opponents for its failures.

Commenting on a statement made by NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani against three federal ministers, PPP Information Secretary Syed Kamal Shah said the NWFP government could not absolve itself of responsibility on the hydel profits issue.

He said the MMA government had abandoned the rights of the province at the Arbitration Commission, which lacked any constitutional or legal protection.

The NWFP chief minister in his statement accused the three federal ministers for creating hindrances in the way of provincial government, which was fighting for its rights at the centre. He said it was the MMA government which had deviated from the constitutional path and accepted the arbitration of a commission for getting billions in outstanding amount from the Wapda.

He advised the chief minister to take up the issue with the guarantors instead of issuing meaningless statements.

The MMA government, he alleged, had deprived the opposition MPAs from development funds.

He said the MMA government had deprived a majority of people from their share in the provincial kitty.
