KARACHI: New curricula include lessons on corruption

KARACHI, July 8: Lessons, essays and poems on ‘corruption’ would be included in the new curricula from the next academic year.

On the suggestion of the National Accountability Bureau, these lessons would be included in textbooks of English, Urdu and Islamiat from primary to intermediate classes.

In this regard, a meeting with Brig Arif Masood Khan in the chair was held at the NAB Sindh Office on Saturday evening. Director Bureau of Curriculum Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Sindh Textbook Board Director (Technical) Masood Ahmed Qureshi and others officers attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the lessons, essays and poems had been included in the new curriculum to highlight harmful impacts of growing corruption and bribery in society and raise awareness amongst students against these social evils. This material had been prepared in the light of teachings of Quran and Sunnah and social and moral values.

Brig Masood said the timely provision of these new textbooks to students should be ensured. He said these textbooks should be duly available in the market before the beginning of the new academic year.

Mr Qureshi told the meeting that textbooks for free distribution amongst students of primary schools would be made available by August 15, 2007, while the books for intermediate would be hopefully made available by October 2007.

The new material included topics of honesty, good habits, truthfulness, morality, sense of responsibility, respect for the law, simple living, justice, discipline, responsibilities of citizens, character building, public behaviour, national heroes, Seeratul Nabi (PBUH) and serving humanity.—PPI
