ISLAMABAD, July 5: Senior Civil Judge Islamabad Abid Rizwan Abid will hear the bail petition of former state minister for communications Mohammad Shahid Jamil Qureshi in Kafila Siddiqui case on July 9.
Earlier, the hearing was fixed for July 4 but due to unavailability of the judge the case could not be taken up.
The judge put off the hearing on June 29, saying the Supreme Court of Pakistan had intervened in the matter and summoned the complete record of the case.
Ms Siddiqui, a Canadian national, died in mysterious circumstances on June 9 in a G-11/3 house, which she shared with Mr Qureshi. The deceased’s brothers - Mustafa Qayyum and Mujtaba Qayyum - took the body to Karachi for burial the next day.
Meanwhile, the body of Ms Siddiqui was scheduled to be exhumed on Thursday for conducting another autopsy to ascertain the actual cause and time of her death. Earlier, the body was to be exhumed on Wednesday, but the process was postponed after one of the doctors left the six-member medical board, saying he was not competent enough for the task. The sources said the second autopsy would be conducted at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi.
During the first autopsy conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), samples of blood, urine and hair were not taken, which are the main sources for detecting poisoning, the sources and experts said.
Likewise, X-rays of the body were also not conducted, the sources said, adding the time of death was also not mentioned in the autopsy report.
