Scattered rain across country

KARACHI, July 3: Scattered rain and thunderstorm were reported in different parts of the country on Tuesday, while the meteorological department forecast more rain.

Meteorological Department’s Director-General Dr Qamaruz Zaman Chaudhry said that the maximum rainfall of 37.2mm in 24 hours was recorded at Chhor in Sindh, while Rawalpindi received 35mm.

He said a low-pressure area was hovering on Tuesday over Rajasthan and eastern Sindh. The moisture supply to the system was likely to decline but it might remain over the area for another 36 hours before dissipating.

He said widespread rain fell on Sindh, particularly the lower areas of the province, on Monday night. However, the system spared Karachi. He said scattered rain in Sindh and isolated heavy showers in the eastern parts of the province were likely.

Mr Chaudhry said the weather system was not likely to approach Balochistan and only isolated moderate rain was likely in the province.

He said scattered rain was expected in Punjab, Islamabad and catchment areas in Kashmir, including the quake-affected areas, over the next two days. He, however, said that no significant weather change was expected in the NWFP and the Northern Areas.

He said that scattered rain and thundershowers were likely in Sindh, Punjab and in some places in Kashmir, Balochistan and the NWFP.

The maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded in Turbat and the minimum of 15 degrees Celsius in Skardu.

Although Karachi, despite forecast, did not receive rain, according to the Met office website, humidity in the city increased to 100 per cent.
