NAWABSHAH, July 3: the district government has established a flood control centre at DCO office here on Tuesday.

A meeting to review the flood and rain situation was held here at Darbar hall. District Nazim Faryal Talpur chaired the meeting.

DCO Abdul Razzaq Qureshi said that the almost 85,000 cusecs water in the River Indus was passing near S. M. Bund at present and there was no emergency situation as earlier 800,000 cusecs had passed from the same place easily.

He further said that the embankments were strengthened along the 120 kilometres on the river side.

The nazim and DCO expressed serious concern over the absence of executive engineers of Hesco and LBOD’s drainage division and said that they would be asked for explanation for remaining absent from an important meeting.

District officer (revenue) Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon said that three persons were killed and six others injured in rain-related incidents in the district.

He further said that emergency relief centres were established along the river in Lakhat, Bachalpur, Mehrabpur, Mari Jalbani and other areas.

EDO health Dr Arif Qazi and deputy medical superintendent, NMC hospital, Dr Naseer Shaikh, informed the meeting that anti-snake venom (ASV) and other drugs were available in the hospitals and they had asked the NIH for supply of more ASVs.

The nazim asked the taluka municipal officers concerned to remain alert. She directed municipal and revenue authorities to strengthen weak embankments of Sim nullahs in Daur, Jam Saheb and other areas and drain water through motors to avoid breaches.

She said that a flood control centre was established at DCO office with phone numbers 0244-9370334, 9370337.
