KARACHI: NAB seeks details of illegal land allotments

KARACHI, July 3: The National Accountability Bureau has asked the land utilization and revenue department to furnish a detailed report within 15 days about false and fake allotments, disposal of valuable land at throwaway prices, double and illegal allotments as well as the staff involved in such deals.

During a briefing at NAB office on Monday, Sindh NAB Director-General Major General Mukhtar Ahmed asked the land utilization and revenue department officials to ensure complete scrutiny of land allotments so that no possibility of cheating the people in the sale and purchase of land or property remains.

He said that record of revenue and lands should be computerised so that fake allotments could be detected forthwith and the elements involved in this heinous business were exposed.

Underlining the need for updating the record of government lands, he said the land allotted through unfair means must be taken back.

He said stern steps would be taken against land grabbers with the initiation of speedy legal action against them.

He said that patrons of illegal occupants of land, particularly the government officials, should be exposed and details of such elements should be sent to NAB within 15 days.

Maj Gen Mukhtar said a lot of problems could be overcome only if the government departments and organisations performed their responsibilities with diligence.

Land Utilization Committee Chairman Justice (retd.) Wahid Bukhsh Brohi, Land Utilization Secretary Shoaib Siddiqi, Station Commander Brig Gondal, Col Waris and the officials of Board of Revenue attended the briefing.—APP
