PESHAWAR, June 29: A reproductive health centre at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) would extend its services to other districts soon, said Dr Lubna Hassan, a senior gynaecologist and the provincial coordinator of the Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV programme.
The centre provides prevention, counselling and treatment facilities to women patients.
Speaking at a training workshop on Friday, she said that the Provincial Aids Control Programme and provincial health department with the collaboration of Unicef had planned to expand the centre’s facilities to other districts. She asked gynaecologists to learn from the experiences of the health centre.
Dr Lubna said that there was a need to establish a strong network of health centres for women, adding that women’s problems related to STIs, infertility, HIV infection and cases of transmission of HIV from mother to child needed urgent attention.—Bureau
