PESHAWAR, June 28: Employees of at least two federal agencies working in the NWFP have asked the provincial government for allotment of residential plots in township schemes reserved for provincial workers.

The NWFP government had recently announced that plots in various township schemes would be allotted to the public sector employees on subsidized rates.

The announcement, welcomed by the provincial government employees, also attracted the employees of federal agencies posted in the NWFP.

The Pakistan Tobacco Board, set up in 1968, is among one of the agencies, whose employees have recently moved the provincial chief secretary, seeking the facility. In an application addressed to the NWFP chief secretary on June 22, the PTB employees quoted the provincial government’s announcement regarding allotment of plots.

“The tobacco crop is grown as a cash crop in the NWFP and all the achievement became possible through the dedicated efforts of the employees of the PTB for the uplift of socio-economic condition of the province. The PTB has its head office in Peshawar and the employees working there are residing in rental accommodation, which is very costly,” reads the application.

The employees requested that like the provincial government employees, residential plots may also be allocated to the PTB employees in Regi Lalma Township in recognition of their services to the growers in the province.

The PTB employees placed a demand for six plots of one kanal, 25 of 10 marla and 28 plots of five marla.

Officials said employees of another federal department, the Commissionerate of Afghan Refugees, had also placed a similar request for allotment of residential plots in Regi Lalma Township a few months ago.

The authorities are yet to come up with a final decision over such requests, said the officials and added it would set a precedent for the employees of other federal agencies, if their requests are accepted.
