Published June 16, 2007

KARACHI, June 15: The land mafia was dislodged from over 500 plots in Baldia Town on the directive of the Town Nazim, Kamran Akhtar, on Thursday.

The encroachers had laid the foundations and started construction on these plots, which belong to cottage industries of the area, almost overnight. The foundations were demolished with the help of a heavy police contingent led by the Mochko Police Station in-charge.

Some of the plots could not be vacated because of the presence of women and children. However, the encroachers were warned that the illegal constructions would be removed in a major operation during the next 48 hours.

COMMUNITY BOARD: The establishment of a Citizen Community Board (CCB) and the prudent utilisation of funds given by the city government for the improvement of the education system in Landhi Town were discussed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the town’s Naib Nazim, Dr Irshad Ahmed, here on Thursday.
