PESHAWAR: Tax collection target increased to Rs887m

PESHAWAR, June 11: The NWFP government has set the Board of Revenue a revised target of various taxes for the current financial year, increasing the goal from Rs855 million to Rs887 million to be achieved by the end of this fiscal on June 30.
Officials at the provincial finance department told Dawn that the collection of some taxes had showed slight improvement during the first 10 months of the current fiscal, paving the way for upward revision of the overall recovery target.
The officials, however, said the collection targets of some taxes would face downward revisions.
They said tax collections under the land revenue had surpassed the target. The BoR had collected Rs464.180 million during the first 10 months against the projected target of Rs380 million for the whole fiscal year, they added.They said the target had been revised upward.
They said the tax collection under the stamp duty would have no change. The BoR, they said, had collected Rs333.363 million during the first 10 months against the Rs350 million for the whole year, adding that the government was hopeful of achieving the target.
They said under the land registration, the BoR had been assigned to collect Rs50 million taxes for the year. The agency had collected Rs42.863 million during the first 10 months and the target had been revised downward to Rs47 million, they added.
The officials said another downward revision had been made in collections under the agriculture income tax where projected target of Rs75 million had been revised downward to Rs70 million. The BoR had so far collected Rs15 million, they added.
