ISLAMABAD, June 9: The government has allocated an amount of Rs378.131 million for various ongoing and new projects of the culture ministry in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2007-08.
According to the budget document, an amount of Rs114.025 million have been earmarked for ongoing projects and Rs264.106 million for new projects.
The total estimated cost of the culture projects is Rs3,010.145 million, including Rs819.384 million for the ongoing projects and Rs2,190.761 million for the new projects.
Among the new projects, an amount of Rs95 million has been allocated for Pakistan-China Friendship Centre, Islamabad, Rs85 million for construction of Aiwan-i-Quaid, Islamabad, Rs40 million for operation and maintenance service of National Monument at Shakarparian, Islamabad; Rs12 million for re-organising of termite-affected Quran Gallery of the National Museum, Karachi; Rs10 million for construction of National Museum, Islamabad; Rs7.50 million for publication of books on arts and culture; Rs6 million for strengthening of planning, monitoring and evaluation cell (PME); Rs5 million for performing arts and Rs3.60 million for restoration and renovation of Quaid-i-Azam House Museum.
For the ongoing projects an amount of Rs21.451 million has been earmarked for creative works at the National Monument, Rs20 million each for development and restoration of archaeological sites in Taxila and for preservation and restoration of Rohtas Fort, Rs10 million each for the rehabilitation and culture tourism at Moenjodaro, construction of museum and library at Sibbi, Balochistan, and rehabilitation of Quaid-i-Azam’s birth place and Quaid-i-Azam House Museum, Karachi, Rs8.46 million for Shahdara Complex of Monuments for Preservation and Restoration of Jahangir’s Tomb); Rs7.86 million for development and restoration of archaeological sites Peshawar; Rs5 million for preservation, conservation and preservation of Mehrgarh sites, Balochistan; Rs1 million for preservation and restoration of Mir Chakar’s Fort at Sibbi, Balochistan and Rs0.254 million for preservation and restoration of Harappa remains and development of a museum.
