KHAIRPUR: Employment on deceased quota sought

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, June 8: A large number of people including women, widows and children of the deceased and retired junior employees of the Agriculture Extension Department (AED) Khairpur observed token hunger strike at the Civic Centre Chowk on Friday.

Protesters led by labour leader Mohammad Sharif Shaikh raised slogans against the AED administration.

Relatives of the deceased employees including Rub Nawaz Noonari, Allah Dino Shaikh, Mohammad Ali Shaikh, and widow of Koral Noonari complained that it had been long when the AED Khairpur employees died but their children as yet were not provided employment on deceased quota or other benefits. They alleged other persons to have been appointed on their relatives’ quota.

Some in-service employees also joined hunger strike and said that they were neither given field allowances nor motorbikes on instalments.

Many labour union leaders joined the hunger strike to express solidarity with the protesters.

They said they would observe hunger strike outside the office of concerned minister if their rights were not given.
