Ban on fishing till Aug 31

Published June 7, 2007

LAHORE, June 6: The Punjab fisheries department has banned fishing and sale of fish till Aug 31.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Punjab fisheries director general Dr Muhammad Ayub said fish species like Rahu, Mori and Thaila bred in natural environment in shallow waters along rivers and streams in the summer season. He said fishing had been banned to protect these species and provide a favourable environment for their reproduction.

Ayub said teams had been formed at the district level to take action against the ban violators that had been imposed under the Fisheries Ordinance 1961 and the Fisheries Rules 1965.—APP
