QUETTA, May 29: Four people, one of them said to be a wanted tribal militant, were killed and seven others injured in a shootout between security personnel and armed men in the Dera Allahyar area of Jaffarabad district, some 250 km east of here, on Tuesday.
According to police sources, when a security convoy was passing through Dera Allahyar reached Sobatpur Chowk, armed men in a car opened fire killing a man accompanying the security personnel. The security personnel fired back and militant commander Musa Rahija Bugti, Nari Bugti, and two other people were killed in the crossfire.
Nari Bugti is a former commander of Nawab Akbar Khan. He had surrendered to the government and was working with the security forces.
The two other people killed in the crossfire were identified as Nazir Ahmed, a soft drink vendor, and Sach Anand, a shopkeeper.
The seven who were injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital. Later, three of them were shifted to hospitals in Jacobabad and Larkana.
Jaffarabad DPO Sohail Shiekh said: "The dead include two people caught in the crossfire.”
However, other sources said that the security personnel acting on a tip-off about presence of a wanted Bugti tribal militant raided an area and during an exchange of heavy fire four people were killed and seven others injured.
