KARACHI, May 28: The Sindh government on Monday constituted an inquiry committee tasked to find out who set up blockades on roads leading to the Sindh High Court on May 12 that caused inconvenience to judges and lawyers coming to take part in the Supreme Court golden jubilee celebrations.
The committee, established by the provincial home department, will submit its findings to the government within 10 days.
“The inquiry committee comprising three officers will be headed by AIG police Bachal Sangri,” Waseem Akhtar, Advis-er to the Chief Minister on Home Affairs, told Dawn on Monday.
The committee was formed following a suo motu notice by the Sindh High Court on the registrar’s report on the blockade of the court premises, mistreatment of a judge and beating up of some lawyers on May 12.
CRITICISM: Sindh President of the MMA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto has said the setting up of a committee by the Sindh Home Department to investigate the May 12 bloodshed amounted to contempt of court and an attempt to influence the court.
He charged that the same persons were nominated on this inquiry committee who, he claimed, had patronised the May 12 incidents.
