LAHORE, May 19: Faisal Saleh Hayat has been “re-elected” president of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) following an amendment to the constitution on the directives of FIFA.

While PFF has announced the elections would be held on July 24, Faisal has been re-elected unopposed on the basis of the amendment to constitution on March 3.

A new clause has been added to the constitution binding a candidate for the post of president to send his nomination papers two months before the elections.

PFF sent a letter to all its affiliated units on May 4, allowing them to nominate candidates for the post till May 13. But since not a single nomination was received, Faisal has been re-elected even before elections.

Meanwhile, the elections at the provincial level have been completed in three provinces, Balochistan, NWFP and Sindh.

The elections in Punjab were conducted in the last week of April but a group headed by Tariq Cheema got a stay order against the elections of Arshad Lodhi as chairman Punjab Football Association. The case is pending with the Lahore High Court.

Meanwhile, the PFF has advised all the members of PFF Congress to send the names of their representatives by May 21.

According to new PFF constitution's Article 24-1 and Article 90-e, the provincial associations, departments must give the names of the representatives by the given date.
