MULTAN, May 17: An elderly woman who was rescued by police after being detained by her son in chains for a year not only forgave him but also requested the court to allow her to stay with her `tormentor’.

Reports said Fatima Bibi, 60, a resident of Mauza Qadirpur Laar Chah Tarapri Wala had been kept in chains by her son Ghulam Asghar for the last one year.

On May 16, Basti Malook police raided Ghulam Asghar’s house on the complaint of a social activist, Muhammad Afzal Sidhu, recovering Fatima Bibi from there.

The police arrested the accused and registered a case (No187/07) under section 344 against him.

Fatima Bibi had told the police that his son chained her, denied her food and subjected her to violence as he wanted to grab her property.

On the other hand, the accused claimed in his statement that his mother was in the habit of filing written complaints against area people over trivial issues which caused him embarrassment, so he had to detain her.

On Thursday the police produced both son and the mother in the court of Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Ilyaas, seeking permission to shift Fatima Bibi to Darul Amaan.

But, the elderly mother not only pardoned her son for his heartless conduct, but also sought permission from the court to accompany him to his house.

The court granting the woman’s request allowed her to go with her son and also released Ghulam Asghar on bail. — Staff Correspondent
