Balochistan lawyers boycott courts proceedings

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, May 14: Lawyers observed complete strike in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan on Monday on the call of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association and other lawyers’ bodies against the killing of people in Karachi.

Hadi Shakeel Ahmed, President, Balochistan High Court Bar Association, said: “None of the lawyers attended any high courts and lower courts in Quetta and other areas of the province.”

Protesting lawyers later gathered in the District Courts premises and took out a protest rally that passed through various roads of the provincial capital during which the lawyers chanted slogans against the government.

The protesters stopped at the Manan Chowk where they were addressed by Hadi Shakeel Ahmed, Sakhi Sultan advocate and Hashim Kakar, Vice Chairman, Balochistan Bar Council.

They strongly condemned the government and its ally party for the Karachi carnage and said that it had been pre-planned to terrify the lawyers' community and opposition parties who were supporting Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

They also held the Sindh government and law enforcement agencies for helping the terrorists who opened fire on the political workers and their leadership in broad daylight.
