ISLAMABAD, May 10: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, on Thursday advised a woman petitioner, allegedly involved in a 2003 assassination attack on President Gen Pervez Musharraf, to pursue the case in the special court.

A bench of the court comprising Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha and Justice Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah heard the case filed by relatives of the accused, Shazia Mubashar.

Her counsel Col Akram pleaded before the court that she had been acquitted by the Field General Court Marshal which proved that she was innocent. Therefore, he said, her detention was illegal and based on mala fide intentions and that she should be released.

The bench informed the counsel that there were different allegations against the woman and she was also facing a case in the anti-terrorism court.

It advised him to pursue the case in the special court because the woman would not be able to plead the case in the lower court if her application was rejected by the superior court.

The petitioner’s counsel withdrew the case and opted to fight it first in the special court. Justice Tariq Abbasi of the special court will take up the case on Friday.

Shazia Mubashar was arrested on January 3, 2004.
