PESHAWAR, May 4: Peshawar city received rain on Friday afternoon bringing about a pleasant change in the weather.

According to the Met office, the city received 3mm rain that brought the mercury down from 39 degrees Celsius to 36. Except Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu, rain was reported from all parts of the province. In Hayatabad town, hailstones were also reported.

The shower lasted for about 10 minutes. The city had also received showers on Thursday night which lasted for 30 minutes.

Our Kohat correspondent adds: Heavy rain and hailstorm hit the Kohat district and adjoining tribal areas on Thursday night lowering the temperature here. Crops of wheat and guava fruit were destroyed, and some mud houses were damaged. Power supply was disrupted in many areas, which was restored by 8pm. However, no loss of property or human life was reported.

Our Chitral Correspondent Adds: Flash floods caused by torrential rain and hailstorm on Thursday night swept away 21 houses in the Khorkashandeh, Shiaqotek, Bakrabad and Shadok villages on the outskirt of Chitral city.

The hailstorm damaged orchards and wheat crop, incurring heavy losses to farmers.

The floodwater entered residential areas in four villages and damaged 21 houses.

The floodwater inundated vegetable farms.

No loss of life was reported.
