Chief Justice determined to travel by road

By Syed Irfan Raza

ISLAMABAD, May 3: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has decided to go to Lahore by road to attend a lawyers’ convention on May 5, despite the government’s efforts to persuade him to travel by air for security reasons.

“The CJ will definitely go by road because he will be accompanied by a large number of lawyers who cannot accompany him on a plane,” the Chief Justice’s lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said here on Thursday.

“It is the government’s responsibility to provide (adequate) security to the CJ and security agencies have to ensure a fool-proof security plan during the CJ’s tour,” he said. Mr Ahsan said if the government could not provide security to the CJ, how could it protect a common man?
