SWABI, May 3: Students of the Swabi Postgraduate College blocked the Swabi-Mardan road on Thursday to protest against loadshedding during their study hours.

The students gathered at the college and marched on the Swabi-Mardan road.

Islami Jamiat Tulaba district amir Abdul Salam and Muslim Students Federation (Q) president Shahzad Mahmand led the protesters.

They said that officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company had failed to take remedial measures to reduce duration of loadshedding during their examinations.

They said that it was very difficult for them to continue study without electricity in the hot weather.

Abdul Salam said that they had been passing through crucial phase of their preparation for the examination, but the power supply remained disconnected at peak hours of the study creating problems for them.

“We can not sleep and study due to prolonged loadshedding and our plan and timetables for the examination preparation have been shattered by the Pesco authorities,” he said.

“Without electricity how can it be possible to study according to the schedule,” he added.

Shahzad Mahmand said that it was the responsibility of the government to provide them facilities and create an environment where they could study.

Police and Pesco officials reached the Gohati Bridge and held talks with the students’ leaders.

Pesco officials said that they would make changes in the loadshedding schedule for the satisfaction of the students.

They said that the students would get uninterrupted power supply during the peak hours of their study.

Police officials supported the idea and told the students to end the blockade.

After assurance the students dispersed peacefully.
