KARACHI, April 29: An alleged gangster was gunned down and a policeman was seriously wounded in an encounter between a gang of criminals and police in Lyari on Sunday.

Police said a mobile van on routine patrolling came under intense firing near Jogi Chowk in Kalakot. The firing was returned and the officials on the spot called in reinforcement. The exchange of fire continued for some time resulting in the death of an alleged gangster, Irfan alias Dodo. The suspect was stated to be a close ally of the Rehman Dacoit gang.

A head constable, who was Munshi at Kalakot police station, received a bullet in his head and he was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
